ABOUT THE AUTHOR

author

Chen Wei Teng

Wei Teng’s aspiration to be a wordsmith started from young when she brazenly declared to her father that she would, one day, read all the books in the world -- and was given a sound knock in the head for being (truly) naive.

Realising the thrill she gets from helping children with literacy difficulties make sense of the language, Wei Teng switched from journalism to teaching. Formerly a senior educational therapist with the Dyslexia Association of Singapore (DAS), she is currently teaching at NorthLight School where she works with teenagers with learning difficulties such as dyslexia and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and who often come from challenging or disadvantaged family backgrounds. She received her honours degree in Psychology from National University of Singapore and a Masters of Arts in Teaching English to Young Learners from University of York.

As an author-storyteller, Wei Teng has conducted storytelling sessions at libraries, museums and schools, using her unique brand of musical storytelling approach with her ukulele and songs. She is also a member of The Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), Singapore, the local chapter of the US-based international organization for authors and illustrators of books for children and young adults.

She has since then convinced her father that she may not be able to read all the books in this world but would have fun attempting to add on to the world’s collections.

She can be reached at chenwt@gmail.com.

I initially bought the books with my nephews and friend’s child in mind...but I was captivated by the story as i flipped through the pages. The story is educational, informative and provides eye-candy too! A feel-good story for both young and old!!!

-Low Pei Pei (Lecturer)

Wei Teng's first book is fun, educational and motivational - definitely hits a home run and leaves a lasting impression on this reader. And Hong Shin's true-to-life and whimsical illustrations add vibrancy to her story!

-Heng Kai Le (educator)

This wonderful book tugged at my heartstrings. The story made me tear and smile at the same time. I like the illustrations too. It’s very real,.. very encouraging. It’s certainly suitable for both the young and old. Great book!

-Jane Lim (former educational therapist)

Murphy may not be able to see, but his sense of smell helps him save a child and realise his purpose! In a world that has you questioning your significance, Murphy’s story can help light a fire within you to find your purpose and lead a meaningful existence. A recommended title to teach children on empathy. I highly recommend this author and look forward to more of Candy and Murphy’s adventures!!
